Too big for .308 bore 01/08/2015
Just received. Looked forward to using. Put on a standard round patch soaked in Butch's. Would not go down barrel. Some difficulty removing.
A really nice jag 10/07/2011
A bore jag is such a simple concept, and basic item, you'd think that there isn't much thought that needs to go into its design. But Bore Tech was indeed thoughtful when they made their version of the lowly jag.
First off, it doesn't give a copper indication. Great. Works as advertised.
Second, the alloy used won't scratch the bore, at least from what I've seen.
But they take this point a step further, even though they don't say it... They gave it a highly polished finish. Finish is just as, if not more, important than the material used. A rough finish (like what I've seen on some of my brass jags) is more likely to scratch. Good job!
I'm guessing that this finish is -not- a plating, as it's described as "Machined from a special copper-free alloy..." but I didn't want to take a file to the jag to verify this. (Platings can chip in the long term, making sharp ridges that can scratch.)
The reverse taper that they mention is so when you pull the jag back (after pushing the patch) it doesn't grab, and potentially nick, the muzzle crown. They also extended this treatment near the base of the threads. It works.
One last point, so to speak, is the point. It is sharp enough to easily pierce the cotton patches, but they also made it nice and long so as to hold the patch in place while you maneuver the cleaning rod back into place with a fresh patch. They didn't mention this feature, but it certainly helps.
Yes, it's pricier than a lot of other jags, but in this case it's worth every penny. I anticipate a lifetime of use.
